Letter Writing Campaign: Advocate Helping Immigrant Families

Conference Minister Chad Abbott travels to Washington D.C. with the Council of Conference Ministers invites congregations to participate in letter writing campaign advocating for immigrant families.

Letter Writing Campaign: Advocate Helping Immigrant Families - IKC Events

At the end of this month our Conference Minister, the Rev. Chad Abbott, will travel with his conference minister colleagues to our Washington D.C. offices to participate in two days of advocacy with policy makers from Indiana, Kentucky, and across the country.  The spark for this area of focus is the ongoing crisis of the ways in which migrant families are treated through recent enacted policies by our government officials.  The voice of the United Church of Christ matters and in these moments when there is a need for a prophetic voice and witness, the conference ministers of our denomination will engage in calling on the leaders of our country towards a vision of compassion for our immigrant neighbors.  Abbott will join his colleagues in Washington D.C. September 24–26 and is requesting that congregations that are passionate about using our voices for justice around migrant families consider writing letters to our political leaders from the districts in each of our states.

The information for offering letters is below and when Abbott meets with political leaders in Washington he would like to be able to hand deliver your letters in person if possible.  Whether your church participates together in writing letters or whether you write them personally, the voice of our churches and faith leaders needs to be heard around this issue. Please consider writing a letter and raising your voice towards a more just and compassionate world for all. See below for more details and keep our conference minister in your prayers as he travels and works with his colleagues to share the vision of welcome embodied in the Jesus we all worship and follow.

The deadline for sending letters is September 20, 2019.
