Lombard Mennonite Peace Center: Mediation Skills Training Institute
With our partners in the Indiana Region of the Disciples of Christ, we are hosting a week long training in conflict mediation February 10-14, 2020.
February 10, 2020
8300 S Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46217
We are excited to offer, in partnership with our Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ (DOC) partners here in Indiana, a Conflict Transformation Training with the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center. This training will be open to participants ranging across the mainline church in Indiana (and for us, Kentucky), an ecumenical opportunity to learn about conflict management from the highly regarded Lombard Mennonite Peace Center (visit their web site by clicking on the preceding underlined text). The training will beheld February 10-14, 2020, location to be determined.
In addition to sending our own conference staff for this training, we in the IKC will fund the lodging, event costs, and daytime meals during the training for 5 people from across our Conference. This event is aimed at preparing a team of people to assist our staff in conflict mediation within the Conference and also to train pastors/lay leaders in conflict matters for their own leadership experience in the church.
If you’re interested in this opportunity, please answer the following four questions (see below) and mail or email them to our Conference Minister, Chad Abbott, no later than October 31st at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will select five people from the applicants. Applicants will be selected so that our five representatives reflect the geographic and skill set diversity of the conference.
Application Questions (there are four)
- What draws you to this conflict transformation training?
- Are you available to meet with congregations in conflict either in the northern or southern region of the conference? And, will you have some ability for semi-frequent meetings with our staff to assess matters of conflict in our conference?
- Describe how you discern the movement of the Holy Spirit in a conflict situation?
- What gifts or skills will you bring to this training and give us one example of how you have used your gifts in moments of conflict?
Remember to email or mail your application with your name, contact information, home church, and answers to the four application questions, so that they reach our Conference Minister, Rev. Chad Abbott, before October 31, 2019.
Peace, Blessings, and Compassion,
Rev. Chad R. Abbott
This co-sponsored boundary training event is hosted in partnership by the Indiana-Kentucky Conference and the Mid-Kentucky Presbytery. Register by October 20th for the October 30th training.
