German Partnership

Learn how we’re partnering with the Evangelical Church in Westphalia, Germany to create a global community

We believe that getting outside your comfort zone to build new relationships can be so good for individuals and congregations alike. The Indiana-Kentucky Conference UCC (IKC UCC) maintains a long-standing partnership with the Evangelical Church of Westphalia (EKvW) that provides a foundation for meaningful cultural exchange.

The IKC-EKvW Partnership Working Group has several goals:

  • Recruit adult and youth participants for the Young Ambassadors program
  • Coordinate hosting throughout the Indiana-Kentucky conference area for visiting Young Ambassadors
  • Provide hospitality for German guests, including pastors, lay persons, and church staff, visiting the region for conferences, sabbaticals, etc.
  • Support participants from IKC UCC in the annual UCC Forum in Westphalia

We meet monthly by conference call and in-person 3-4 times per year either at the conference office or in homes around the Indianapolis area.

Each year in the fall there is a United Church of Christ and Evangelical Church in Westphalia collaborative forum. This forum alternated, year to year, between the United States and Germany. The primary American partners are the Indiana-Kentucky and Heartland Conferences of the UCC; our regional German partners are the Evangelical Church of Westphalia (which is a state in Germany, a church region that roughly corresponds to a UCC Conference). Speakers from all parties are present at the Forum and we enjoy workshops and community building.
